Prior to purchasing this lens, I did my research on macro lens, comparing technical specifications, prices and manufacturing countries. Contacting Nikon USA, the representative could not tell the manufacturing country. I had bad experience of owning a Japanese brand, made outside of Japan. Guaranteed by the manufacturer's brand name is not good enough. I like to buy and use a quality lens, not a brand name!!!! When I contacted Sigma USA, I got a positive reply that the lens is made in Japan.



Great macro lens on my Nikon D700.

Picture quality: Excellent. 9 Diaphragm Blades creates smooth bokeh, great for portraiture.

Workmanship: Excellent

Combined with Nodal Ninja rotating tripod heads, I'm using this lens to produce equirectangular 360deg x 180deg panoramas. Six shots in 60deg increments work perfectly when stitched with Hugin or AutoPano.



Limited depth of field is a problem --- I find that typically I have to operate the lens at f/11 or f/16 to get decent full-frame-in-focus results, which necessitates shutter times of > 0.5s indoors, so it's only really useful for static scenes.

I was looking for a replacement machine after my Dell XPS M1330 unexpectedly died on me. I was initially primarily looking at netbooks, especially the ASUS Eee PC line but wanted more power, while maintaining the light and small form factor at the same time. I happened to stumble across the machine upon a recommendation from a friend. I have been using it for about a month now and am extremely pleased. Windows 7 runs very smooth, and almost all of my applications run without problems. I am able to play movies without skipping and ouput them to my HDTV via the HDMI output, which was an important feature for me. The screen is excellent as well.



I have two complaints. The mouse is difficult to use and I am quite prone to accidental "double clicks" while moving the mouse around. I may try to get an external mouse, but this is somewhat annoying. Also, the space bar is quite flimsy and is not always responsive when I type, which is also annoying when typing out lengthy papers for school.
